Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:

Would radical Islamic terrorists really detonate a nuke in the USA? Are they angry enough to murder hundreds of thousands or even millions of Americans in the name of Islam?

If they could, you bet they would! And with nukes, it only takes one mistake by our security forces to create an unimaginable disaster. That’s why navy captain George Adams takes things into his own hands.

Shortly after George takes command of the fleet ballistic missile submarine, USS Louisiana, the sub disappears right under the noses of the guards at the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Georgia. Have terrorists hijacked the sub? Will they launch 120 nuclear warheads against America? Have the captain and crew gone mad? Will they start WWIII by launching against the Muslim world?

A frantic search by the world’s best anti-submarine forces ensues. Sub hunters from the US, England, Russia, and China join the hunt. The hunter-killer group is led by captain “Buffalo” Sewell in the USS Texas. Buffalo is George’s best friend, and he thinks he knows every move George will make. But George has some surprises for him and the rest of the group. In fact, George has surprises for everyone! He’s added new technology that enables the Louisiana to evade the best, and as they hunt, George begins to implement his radical plan.

Counter Poised will keep you riveted to the book right up until the surprise ending when you’ll throw it into the air with glee! But it’s not just a thriller; it’s also a thinking-person’s book. In the course of the story, the characters discuss or face dozens of real-world political, social, economic, and military issues. The world is not a simple place, and Spikenard’s characters reflect this fact.
