Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:

New York City 1896

The tattered blue folder that was handed to Jess Pepper his first week on the job bulged with reports of violent crimes against women. Lovely, dark-haired women, caught alone after dark on streets New Yorkers thought of as safe. They were brutal crimes, by a fellow who was never caught, because each time, just as the young woman felt certain she drew her last breath, a man stepped from the shadows. And saved her. Now, twenty years later, the crudely lettered words penciled on the folder’s cover grabbed Jess and wouldn’t let go. The Samaritan Files. Twenty women had survived those crimes two decades ago, because of one good man. One good Samaritan. Who was he? And why hadn’t the city thanked him?

Chief Deacon Trumbull relished the lavish life he lived, a life of wealth and status far beyond what his salary and station should have garnered him. He wore only the best, smoked only the best, kept only the best in his well-stocked private bar, all paid for by years on “the take”, years living on the devil’s dime. He was not about to let an upstart investigative reporter at the New York Times threaten his lucrative empire. That would not happen. Not while Deacon Trumbull drew breath. Not as long as he could find that blasted Samaritan first. And make him disappear once and for all.

Addie Magee found a great deal more than she anticipated when she brought her violin to New York City. She found a group of young women ready to follow her lead into a promising career as the Avalon Strings. She found the father she hadn’t seen for sixteen years. And the young man to whom she was losing her heart threatened to ruin it all.

Now Addie is abducted, her father is about to be executed, and an evil man’s vengeance is unleashed, all because of Jess’s reporting.

And only Jess can save them.

Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:

Everyone knows someone like Tim Finnegan. Just a guy, barely scraping by. Someone with too much squandered potential. Someone with not enough of anything, aside from anger and resignation. He works too hard for too little, and would prefer to be left alone. He lives a seemingly joyless existence. It’s much worse for him, because he knows what he had, and exactly how he lost it all. Things get worse, however when a band of miscreants known to the media as the Jackson Five decide to rob a bank as he’s walking out, two weeks worth of not-enough in his back pocket.

They discover trying to rob a man like Tim Finnegan was a mistake. Tim discovers getting shot in the face really ruins the week.

Things get worse for Tim when he awakens two days later, his bullet wound completely healed, and plagued by precognitive visions. Common wisdom dictates that people fear what they don’t understand, and it’s safe to say Tim Finnegan scares the hell out of himself.

Unfortunately for him, he scares the hell out of a lot of other people as well. In short order he finds himself running from the Law, the scumbags that shot him, a group of whack-jobs calling themselves the Disciples of Nero, who want nothing more than to watch the world burn. The Reverend Father Jonathan Blake, however, believes that Tim may be the Second-Coming, or the Anti-Christ.

Then, and only then, does Tim forge his own path. Only one thing is certain: They never saw it coming.

The Hangman’s Daughter Series

I don’t post very often to this blog on the weekend, but here’s one (actually, two) I thought you would be interested in checking out and possibly giving them a try.

The Kindle Daily Deal is a one-day only offer where a specific Kindle book has been hand-selected by the editors at Amazon and significantly discounted for today only.

Today’s Kindle Daily Deal is comprised of two books: the Kindle editions of The Hangman’s Daughter, the historical thriller series from internationally best-selling author Oliver Potzsch, and both of these were $9.99 each yesterday in the Amazon Kindle Store but both have been discounted 90% to just $0.99 each for today only.

Here is Book 1’s description from the Amazon website:

Germany, 1660: When a dying boy is pulled from the river with a mark crudely tattooed on his shoulder, hangman Jakob Kuisl is called upon to investigate whether witchcraft is at play. So begins The Hangman’s Daughter–the chillingly detailed, fast-paced historical thriller from German television screenwriter, Oliver Pötzsch–a descendent of the Kuisls, a famous Bavarian executioner clan.

Here is Book 2’s description from the Amazon website:

1660: Winter has settled thick over a sleepy village in the Bavarian Alps, ensuring every farmer and servant is indoors on the night a parish priest discovers he’s been poisoned. As numbness creeps up his body, he summons the last of his strength to scratch a cryptic sign in the frost.
Following a trail of riddles, hangman Jakob Kuisl; his headstrong daughter, Magdalena; and the town physician’s son team up with the priest’s aristocratic sister to investigate. What they uncover will lead them back to the Crusades, unlocking a troubled history of internal church politics and sending them on a chase for a treasure of the Knights Templar.
But they’re not the only ones after the legendary fortune. A team of dangerous and mysterious monks is always close behind, tracking their every move, speaking Latin in the shadows, giving off a strange, intoxicating scent. And to throw the hangman off their trail, they have ensured he is tasked with capturing a band of thieves roving the countryside attacking solitary travelers and spreading panic.
Delivering on the promise of his international best seller The Hangman’s Daughter, Oliver Pötzsch takes us on a whirlwind tour–once again based on prodigious historical research into his own family tree–through the occult hiding places of Bavaria’s ancient monasteries, bringing to life an unforgettable hangman and his tenacious daughter, painting a robust tableau of 17th-century Bavaria as it navigates the lasting impacts of war, and quickening our pulses with a gripping, mesmerizing mystery.

Life in tiny Winslow Falls, New Hampshire is pretty darn good until an arsonist decides to ruin everyone’s Christmas.
The way volunteer fire chief Gwen Fifield sees it, her life in rural New Hampshire is as good as it can be. Sure, she’s gained twenty pounds and her property taxes have skyrocketed, but her basement didn’t flood this year and the general store started delivering pizza.
All things considered, Gwen’s got no complaints….that is until she finds a body sizzled like a sausage in the smoldering remains of the Winslow Falls museum.
When an artifact from the museum is traced to an immigrant family, most local residents are quick to blame the outsiders. But clues from the past convince Gwen that the town she’s always trusted is harboring a home-grown murderer.

Las Vegas mobsters, who smuggle them in, sell their parts to well-heeled patients, vying for hearts, kidneys and more in Mexican surgeries. Syndicated columnist, Carrie Linden, is 35 and gorgeous. She also has a drinking problem and a compulsion for risk-taking. Upon discovering a horrific body harvesting operation, Carrie and lover, wealthy attorney Michael Taylor inform the local Sheriff who refuses to investigate. Starring in the Movie of My Life

Category: Contemporary Fiction

Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:

Samantha acts without thinking. Her heart is huge while her sense of purpose is small; she’s willing to fight for those she loves, but she’s never learned to fight for herself. Eighteen-year-old Melody is cold and calculating, and she’s driven by the desire to better herself. As these compelling yet deeply flawed women battle for the affections of twenty-five-year-old Nathan, he becomes increasingly confused and torn between them. Nathan is Melody’s English teacher, and after he saves her from being raped, she becomes attached. Melody longs for the affection she’s never felt, so she involves people in her self-invented drama, making sure she is at once the star and the director. Meanwhile, Samantha is newly married to Nathan. But Samantha has hang-ups about motherhood and lingering feelings for her ex. To make sense of the world, Sam relates her life to the themes of her favorite movies, while she independently makes a documentary to jump-start her non-existent film career.

Stylistically influenced by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Weiner, Starring in the Movie of my Life is told alternately from both Samantha’s and Melody’s points-of-view and relates two complete yet combined stories about love, acceptance, and redemption. It speaks to our universal desire to be saved by the ones we love, and the monumental effort required to save ourselves.
